After much speculation and anticipation, the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been released! Feast ‘yer eyes on the first look at a live-action Star Wars movie that, for the first time, is not an episode. This movie takes place shortly before Star Wars: A New Hope and will tell the story of how the Rebel Alliance successfully stole the plans to the Death Star.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.

In order to keep up the hype for Star Wars, Disney knows they have to keep the ball rolling. They need to show us something new and fresh, but at the same time, still feels like Star Wars. They hooked us with The Force Awakens, and now this trailer is what they’re showing us to say they’re all in on Star Wars. Seeing all of the classic imagery in a new setting with a new story was something fantastic.
Another thing I really like about this teaser is how it doesn’t really feel like any other Star Wars movie we’ve seen. Most all of the episodes feel like adventures more than actual wars, but this trailer shows us an all out war. Here are some other quick thoughts.
-What’s clear with these first two movies is that the new team behind Star Wars understands how much of a boys club it’s come across as all these years, and now they’re working hard to fix that, which is awesome. Felicity Jones’ character looks similar to Rey, but also different in her rebellious nature.
-Oh, hello Mon Mothma!
-I’m getting a sense that this will be a bit more political than other Star Wars movies, which could be great if they do it well.
-This Imperial alarm sounding throughout the trailer is giving me chills, and a sense of great urgency.
-Here’s our first look at Ben Mendelsohn as some sort of Imperial officer – assumedly, the film’s main villain.
-THIS is probably my favorite shot of the whole trailer because it shows us a world living in fear of the Empire.
-These guys are called “Shadowtroopers,” and they’ve been apart of Star Wars lore for a long time. I’m glad we’re finally seeing them show up in a movie though.
-Okay, look. I have no idea who this guy is. Not his actor. Not his character. But after seeing this shot, I REALLY want to know.
-This is my OTHER favorite shot of the trailer, simply because it’s so aesthetically pleasing.
-Who is that? Who IS that? Certainly that’s not Darth Vader. It looks like he’s wearing a hood, and there is no situation in which Vader would do that. Could this be another villain? Perhaps Mads Mikkelsen’s character?
-Yes. Just Yes.
-Here’s our main character in Imperial garb, which means she’s definitely acting as a spy here…right?
